Oi in the Community

Dec 30, 2016

As a social enterprise, Oi has a greater focus than caring for women’s health and the well-being of our planet. Educating the world that we all have a choice as to what products we choose to use and that together we can remove plastics and chemicals from our society is one of our core values, but we also want to make sure that we are doing our part for our communities right here in New Zealand.

Spring Wellness

Aug 29, 2016

Spring is a wonderful time for personal growth, transformation and inspiration. It is also a time to just let go.

Letting go is a little like pruning. We all know our plants do better when they are pruned. Cutting away the dead wood gives way for new growth - this is the same for people too. We may need to let go of old habits, unhealthy relationships, jobs or even foods we know are not supporting our health and happiness.

Oi! That time of month sucks.

Aug 11, 2016

It’s true. We could sugar coat it for you, but at Oi we’re all about honesty and transparency. Unless you had a mishap with contraception after a fabulous indiscretion during the month, no one ever ran cheering from their front door, leaping for joy that Aunt Flo has arrived!

The whispering woods!

Apr 20, 2016

Talking trees? It’s well known that plants communicate on some level like all living beings, but science has uncovered what is now called the Mycorrhizal Network and the concept of an underground super highway is becoming part of mainstream science.

Hidden beneath the soil is a labyrinth of fungal connections between tree and plant roots that scientists have dubbed the Wood-Wide Web.

For Homeless Women, Period Pain Is An Understatement

Dec 24, 2015

Today we dropped some Oi pads down to the Auckland City Mission, a small but significant and very practical start.  Toiletries are a simple and seemingly benign little thing, but sorely needed at the mission, and a necessity often overlooked in donations.

If menstrual care was classified as healthcare, essential feminine hygiene products would be free and available for all socially disadvantaged women on prescription, thus restoring a small measure of dignity  for homeless women.

If you would like to help, please drop off much needed sanitary care products at the Auckland City Mission, or the equivilant in your area, or you can give a box to RAW women with our ‘buy a box, give a box’ initiative.

Periods, its something we all have in common.

Celebrating our Suffragettes - Revolutionaries and Girl Power Inspiration

Dec 23, 2015

Oi co founder Bridget Healy and Cato’s (brand) Heather Ware inspired by the Suffragette movie.  Directed by Sarah Gavron, featuring Meryl Streep and Helena Bonham Carter.

Did you know that many of the social, political, religious and sexual freedoms we enjoy today are a direct result of the suffragette movement and the determination, courage and sacrifices of those amazing women?  As the movie Suffragette breaks in cinemas across the country, we remember, celebrate and consider how far we have come and the important work in ‘gender equality for all’ that still continues today.

Bridget's Healthy Holiday Gingerbread

Gingerbread makes a gorgeous gift and a lovely treat but it can also be wholesome and nutrient dense, full of nutritious goodies, to be shared and enjoyed by everyone.  Here’s a gem of a recipe that comes without the guilt. Shift Your Perspective and Practice Joy

Dec 2, 2015

“Emancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind” Bob Marley

Yep, just like you practiced riding your bike when you were a kid . . . .  and eventually mastered, joy is an art too and like anything you want to learn or get better at, it requires some practice.

Practice can seem daunting or even like too much hard work but this kind of practice is different, getting off the couch is always good (in so many ways) but you don’t even have to do that, it’s really a matter of shifting your perspective and it’s actually easier than you think.

The RAW Deal

Nov 13, 2015

We’ve just announced a partnership with Annah Stretton’s RAW programme.  See the announcement here.

Buy a Box, Give a Box here

A unique opportunity

This is our opportunity to refuse to turn our backs on those who have suffered and created suffering, to welcome them to a better life, give them our hand as they make major life changes. What RAW asks of its women is huge; they’re asked to commit to something long term, with little access to family and totally transform their norms and aspirations. The incubation programme is something that many of us would struggle with if we had to go through it, so getting behind these women, and this extraordinary programme, is a unique opportunity in my eyes.  One that doesn’t exist anywhere else in New Zealand.  A privilege, in fact, that breaks the cycle and presents an opportunity to be involved in helping another woman make a positive contribution to the lives of others. One life, a chance at redemption, we all make mistakes!

Tampons - little white lies?

Oct 23, 2015

So, what’s in a tampon and why should we care?

Increasingly, lifestyle journalists, health experts, gynaecologists and women have raised concerns about what’s really in feminine hygiene products. Tampons and pads still exist in a regulatory grey area where the law does not require Companies to disclose their ingredients.
