Four things you don’t want in your ladybits

Mar 1, 2017

We have partnered with the wonderful team at Panic PR, who are helping us spread the message about all of Oi’s key initiatives. This month they have highlighted the four things you don’t want in your tampons – read on for a teaser and head to their website for the full post!

Conventional pads are made of synthetics, which have been proven to have harmful effects on our bodies, including vaginal itching, irritation, soreness, and discharge. Ingredients you want to avoid – and will never be found in Oi products – are:

  1. Plastic:
Most pads are made from over 90% crude oil plastics, the same ingredient as the petrol in your car. These plastics either end up in landfill where they can take over 500 years to degrade or make their way into our oceans, damaging marine ecology and eventually our food chain.

  2. Bleaches:
Chlorine bleaching practises produce dioxin as a by-product - a substance linked to serious health issues such as cancer, endometriosis and immune system compromise.

  3. Super absorbents:
Synthetic tampons are made from manmade materials such as rayon and viscose which can leave behind fibres embedded in your body causing vaginal irritation, or leading to the sometimes deadly Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS).

  1. 'Natural' cotton:
'Natural' cotton products have no synthetics and plastics but non-organic cotton is one of the most heavily sprayed crops in the world, using more than 25% of the world’s total insecticides and treated with harsh carcinogenic pesticides.
